Subject: Thank you
Hi All,

Before the semester ends, I want to take a moment to thank you for your excellent teaching this semester and for all your assistance with retention and recruitment of students during this year. I know we had some rough moments with our Banner implementation and with some challenges associated with the transition, but I want you to know how much I appreciate you working with our students to get through this difficult period.

If you are travelling this summer, I hope you have safe trips and take the opportunity to rest and re-charge before the Fall semester.

As always, I will notify you by email about budget information and other issues which may arise over the summer, so please check your email while you are off campus.

Happy summer and see you in the Fall!

Take care,

Lisa

(d) The last date of attendance must be entered in order to post a final grade of F, I, IP, or WN. Please enter 13-JAN-2013 (16-wk) or 10-MAR-2013 (B-Term) as the last date of attendance for WN grades

If you have forgotten your PIN, please click on “I Forgot My PIN” at the bottom of the login page and follow directions for creating a new PIN. Remember, you must use your CWID or SSN and PIN to log into the NSUConnect system.

Subject: Faculty forum notes
Hi All,

Here is the info from the Forum:

The SGA is hosting a 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. study session in the Union. Rather than keeping the library open until midnight, the Union will be open until 2. If any faculty or staff members wish to stop in to assist or meet with students, you will be welcome:) The SGA, NSU tutoring staff, and our student affairs staff have worked hard to create a great series of activities and study halls. Please stop by if you can.

Please remind your students to register asap before they leave campus. We need to ensure as many students as possible are enrolled before they leave for summer.

On Monday, the House removed 500 million of one-time and contingency money from the Executive Budget. We do not know how much will be restored by the Senate. This potentially will impact Higher Education. Unfortunately, we do not know what that impact might be. I will continue to monitor this and will keep you posted via email throughout May and June. Please check your email regularly to ensure that you are aware of meetings or information about the budget.

Several bills are under consideration which impact higher education.

Sb36 by Heitmier – Prohibits smoking on all campus buildings and grounds

SB16 by Long- Legislation passed in 2012 established the employer contribution rate for new ORP employees commensurate with the Cash Balance Plan (effective 2013). The result was a reduction in employer rates from 5.2% to 1.8%. This bill restores the employer contribution rate to current levels.

SB117 by Appel- Establishes the Outcomes-Based Funding Task Force to develop a funding formula considers costs, but emphasizes student and institutional outcomes and alignment with state economic development and workforce needs; anticipates establishing tier groups with metrics that compare institutions with appropriate peers; anticipates an allocation with percentages based on outcomes and operating costs and provisions to prevent dramatic shifts in funding levels.

SB118 by Appel – Makes the powers of higher education management boards subject to the funding formula adopted by the Board of Regents (unless otherwise provided in an appropriations bill); permits a management board to redirect an amount not to exceed 5% of the formula to address specific issues that may arise during the budget allocation process.

SB 204 by Adley – Provides for the issuance of bonds to finance capital improvements in the LCTCS

HB6 by Schroder – Extends authority to carry weapons on campus to off duty law enforcement officers

HB207 by Carmody - Allows for buildings at postsecondary institutions to be named after living persons.

HB243 by Carter- Extends TOPS eligibility to certain out of state/country graduates.

HB 612 by Greene- Permits the use of TOPS awards for students graduating from out-of-state colleges or universities for graduate study.

HB 194—Provides for differential and per credit hour charge for student tuition.

Have a great weekend.

Best,
Lisa

Subject: FW: Registration/Overrides
Hi All,

Here is info you made need to advise students this semester. Also, please remember that transcript hold will not prohibit a student from registering. Please remind your students in classes that registration started this week. If you can also share information about the about the gift card drawing, this may help some of them to remember to enter their courses in NSU Connect.

Thanks,
Lisa
